New(ish) Album From Gore Metal Overlords

This is not exactly breaking news, but I've just learned with a mixture of excitement and revulsion that New York zombie gorefiends Cannibal Corpse released a new album back in February - the beautifully-titled Evisceration Plague. I got into the band back in 2005 at the apex of my extreme metal leanings, and took morbid fascination in their devastatingly dense sound, dodgy album covers (see image) and hilarious lyrical abominations. So inspired was I that I even wrote a death metal song in my nascent FBTR days about... well, it involved cows, and fists. Yeah.

Evisceration Plague seems to follow a 'Corpse tradition, in that it could just as easily be titled Unpleasant Ways To Die. Here's the tracklisting:

  1. Priest Of Sodom
  2. Scalding Hail
  3. To Decompose
  4. A Cauldron Of Hate
  5. Beheading And Burning
  6. Evidence In The Furnace
  7. Carnivorous Swarm
  8. Evisceration Plague
  9. Shatter Their Bones
  10. Carrion Sculpted Entity
  11. Unnatural
  12. Skewered From Ear To Eye
  13. Skull Fragment Armor
Altogether now: Intestines slick with blood cannot escape my grip / Surgical incisions give way to frenzied carving / Delirium has taken hold, disembowelment is complete / Horror grips my mind, my entrails are in my hands.' Gorgeous!

I haven't had a full-on extreme metal fest in ages, and yet I've just blogged about black and death metal in the same day! I'll have to go home and listen to this tonight. It's great music for cleaning your room to, if you can consider that a recommendation.
